Tyrannosaurus Rex lived on Earth 65–67 million years ago! The earth was very different to how it is now – plants were mostly conifer and ferns although some flowering plants were beginning to grow too. The continents were all different then as well and these dinosaurs lived in an area called Laurasia. Today we now know this area as Canada and the USA!
It is very difficult to know what animals were feeding on millions of years ago but scientists can work out from the fossils of dinosaur teeth that a Tyrannosaurus was a carnivore (meat eater), preying on other dinosaurs. The teeth of a Tyrannosaurus were 18cm long and very sharp! From finding fossilized bones from these dinosaurs we can work out that these dinosaurs were really big and could grow to be over 5 metres tall!
Tyrannosaurus Rex is now extinct because of a catastrophe that happened at the end of the Cretaceous period. No one is sure exactly what happened but some theories suggest a large meteorite hit the earth causing many animals and plants to die.
